1.0 Overview of On-station Testing

ACGG’s chicken on-station performance testing will be conducted at two separate locations in Tanzania, Ethiopia and Nigeria. In Ethiopia the on-station chicken performance testing will be conducted at Debrezeit Agricultural Research Center (DZARC-EIAR) and Haramaya University (HU), in Nigeria, it will be conducted at FOL- HOPE farm and FUNAAB, and in Tanzania, it will be conducted at Soikone University of Agriculture (SUA) and Tanzania Livestock research institute (TALRI-Naliendele).

For more information the on-farm testing protocol will be uploaded soon.

2.0 On-station training manual

ACGG is a project working with diverse stakeholders including universities, national research institutes and the private sector to increase smallholder chicken production and productivity growth as a pathway out of poverty in sub-Saharan Africa. The African Chicken Genetic Gains (ACGG) project is an ILRI led BMGF funded project that seeks to increase access of poor smallholder farmers in Tanzania, Ethiopia and Nigeria to high-producing and agro-ecologically adaptable chicken germplasm. The project tests multiple tropically adapted chicken strains under on-station and on-farm management conditions on parallel for 72 weeks to demonstrate high production efficiency under low-input systems and likability by farmers.

This on-station chicken performance manual is developed from the on-station and on-farm protocol which was generated as a follow-up to ACGG – Producer Level Baseline Survey which was conducted to define and characterize current smallholder chicken production systems, chicken ecotypes, current realized productivity, husbandry practices, and the socioeconomic status of poor smallholder farmers in Nigeria, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. refer the link below for the draft on-station manual File:ACGG Ethiopia ON-Station Manual_March 19th.pdf

3.0 Overview of On-station Testing

The on-station enumerators are to be given a week long training with the objective of 1) understanding the ACGG on-station testing, 2) familiarizing themselves with the use of the ODK, and 3) become proficient at collecting the ACGG on-station data. Please see the status of the trainings by country below: ACGG’s chicken on-station performance testing will be conducted at two separate locations in Tanzania, Ethiopia and Nigeria. For more information the on-farm testing protocol will be uploaded soon......
